Maria Angeles Hegglin
Maria Angeles Hegglin is a self-taught neoimpressionist born in Cordoba, Spain, and now living in New York, whose oils on canvas present an idyllic sun-splashed vision of the world. She is a landscape painter whose work is notable for its subtle colors and tactile surfaces, accomplished with a palette knife. Applying thick impacto directly to the canvas with strong strokes, she achieves a sensuous tactility that lends her compositions of lakes and mountains an appealing briskness and physical palpability. Her paintings are as sumptuous as cake frosting.
"... What really is making me an artist is the use of the palette knife... I just left freedom to my brush and knife, and let them add color to an empty canvas... English is not my mother tongue. I'm not able to use fancy words or elaborated sentences; my vocabulary is limited, but not my feelings. I talk through my work. My paintings are created from my heart..."
